Mr. George Sturgis Coffin was born on September 8, 1903 and died March 12, 1994. He was born in Waltham, Massachusetts, United States. He was an American author and also publisher of bridge-related books as well as other games. He was also a co-founder of the American Bridge Teachers Association.

All in all he authored more than 200 bridge-related books about the game of bridge, poker, cribbage, and other card games. His specialty was devising methods for play technique such as elimination plays, squeeze plays, and also coups, which eventually led to the bridge community and peers to bestow upon him the nickname of Endplays Coffin, which was also the title of one of his bridge publications.

The New York Times reported on his death May 5, 1994, that George Sturgis Coffin, a prolific publisher and writer of books on bridge and other games, died on March 12 at Waltham-Weston Hospital near his home in Belmont, Mass. He was 90. He died of congestive heart failure, said his executor, Frederic Crafts 3d. Mr. Coffin, who graduated from Harvard College in 1928, broke ground in 1932 with "Endplays at Bridge Explained." He published about 200 books, written by himself and others.
